As an HR expert, I understand your concern about the requirement for employees to clean and maintain the office facilities, including the toilets. In smaller companies, it is not unusual for employees to be responsible for such tasks as it helps reduce costs. However, it is important to consider the fairness and impact on employee morale. While it may be reasonable to ask employees to contribute to maintaining a clean and healthy work environment, it is also important for employers to assess the impact on productivity and employee well-being. Cleaning tasks should be proportionate and reasonable, without causing excessive disruption or taking away from employees' primary responsibilities. In this case, if employees are required to regularly clean the office and toilets without any additional compensation or adjustments to their workloads, it may lead to dissatisfaction and demotivation among the staff. It is also possible that employees may feel undervalued if the employer does not invest in basic cleaning services. As an HR professional, I would suggest discussing this concern with the employer or management. It could be worthwhile to propose alternative solutions such as hiring a part-time cleaner or outsourcing the cleaning tasks to a professional service. This would not only ensure a hygienic workplace but also allow employees to focus on their core responsibilities and maintain a healthy work-life balance.Ultimately, it is important for employers to strike a balance between cost savings and employee satisfaction. By considering the impact on employees and addressing their concerns, employers can create a positive and productive work environment.
