No, but the employer can demand the employee to pay in-lieu of notice if the employee failed to serve the full notice.

Let's say the termination notice is 4 weeks, but the employee only gave 1 week notice. The employer can demand the employee to pay 3 weeks worth of salary for payment in-lieu.
