Is a 2 month notice period too long?

I've recently been offered a new job, and I'm excited about the opportunity. However, my current employment contract requires a 2-month notice period. I'm wondering if this is longer than usual and if it might cause issues with my new employer.

Also, are there any strategies for negotiating a shorter notice period with my current employer?

A 2-month notice period is longer than the standard notice period of 1 month in many industries. This may cause some challenges for your new employer who may need you to start sooner. When negotiating a shorter notice period with your current employer, you can highlight the benefits of a shorter notice period to both parties. For example, offering to train your replacement or work extra hours to complete any pending tasks before leaving can show your willingness to make the transition smoother. It's important to discuss this issue professionally and respectfully with your current employer to reach a mutually beneficial agreement.
